Safe Harbor for Listed Species
The safe harbor program protects state-listed species such as the red-cockaded woodpecker on private lands; this program encourages this voluntary, incentive-based effort in order to stem the need for the adding species to state and federal endangered lists. Voluntary, private conservation efforts also saves money that the state can use on other conservation programs.

Chipola River Watershed Partnership
The Chipola River in Florida Panhandle is a mainly unspoiled blackwater watercourse that flows into the fabled Apalachicola River. The partnership that is effected by this grant shall protect the riparian resources of the river by joining private landowners with local, state and federal agencies to create a management plan . This plan shall seek to ensure that the environmental attributes of the watershed and river are protected. The US Fish and Wildlife Service, Florida Natural Areas Inventory, FWC, University of Florida, US Geological Survey, Alabama Clean Water Partnership and others are involved in it is worthwhile effort.

Upland Ecosystem Restoration
North Florida’s Tall Timbers Research Station, in conjunction with the National Wild Turkey Federation, Quail Unlimited, Florida Wildlife Federation and state and federal agencies, is working on a critical plan to prioritize public and private lands for restoration and the initiation of large scale projects to provide habitats for listed species as well as species which are in decline. With Florida’s explosive population growth, the conservation of large scale tracts to benefit both humans and wildlife is more essential than ever.
